| Description: |
Colorful, lively botanicals are embossed with ink onto 380 gram French paper. These botanical images go against the grain when it comes to flowers. Each is chosen for its unusual organic qualities, silhouette and rarity in art or other representational uses.  This series is made using and antiquated printing practice called Intaglio Etching. The etched metal plates become the print matrix hand inked one at a time and pulled by crank through an old printing press. Developed over 400 years ago in Italy, this technique is considered a fine art.  It's rare to find etchings in a large format and conventionally the artist yield only Editions, a numbered set of identical prints. Weintraub does not create a series of matched prints, instead opting for a modern way of using the medium to create various works with similar theme, but each is entirely original. |
